The most underrated genius that ever lived?

Well yes you read the heading, so who was it according to you? For me it was Nikola Tesla. The most neglected genius, who never truly revieved the honor and respect that were his. I am saying this because his contribution to humanity was greater than that of any other scientist or inventor of his time. While others were solvinga and presenting solutions to the problems the world was facing that time, he pesented the world with the future itself. He was the world's first true futurist. Being born under thunder and lightening, it will not be wrong to call him son of Zeus( greek god of thunder and lightening). He never let his humble background come in the way of his learning. So prodigious was he that he was capable of soving complex mathematical problems without even lifting the pen but his professors never credited him for it instead they considered him a cheater. From a young age Tesla was facinated by lightening and electricity. So after completing his engineering he started working on projects that would result in betterment of human society. Blessed with the eidetc memory he could recite the entire book after reading it once. Once a fire broke out in his lab due to which all his resarch work got burnt but it was not a problem for him as he had alreday memorised all his work. He used to conduct thought experiment where he would assemble his machines and run them over and over again in his imagination till he receive the expected result. It was the thought experiment that he would realise his inventions in real world. Keeping his genius apart he was a humanitarian. He worked day and night on his projects. He never patented any of his invention because his machines were for the people. But not everybody shared this idea, his fellow inventors started using his inventions for personal gains claiming that were theirs. Amongst them the biggest was Thomas Elva Edison. He recognized Tesla's genius and got so afraid of his potential that he would do anything to tarnish his image. Also he was very succesful with it because he was the most renowned inventor of that time and had a great society image whereas on the other hand Tesla was not that popular among the people. Tesla was the supporter of ac current and believed that it is the future of electricity on the contrary Edison supported dc current. It is said that once in order to prove Tesla wrong, Edison kidnapped pets from the neighbourhood of the place where Tesla's ac current was being tested by the government and electrocuted them, just to prove how dangerous it was. Despite of all these events, Tesla never quit and he kept on with his work. Tesla was so ahead of his time that he had an working idea of a machine that could transmit energy wirelessly across the globe. Not only this, he is the only person in history to replicate and study the phenomenon of "fireball" or "lightening ball". To get a idea of it imagine a spherical ball of lighthening levitating above the ground moving really slowly. To this date no scientist is ever able to replicate it. Radio, light bulb, telegraph, x-ray etc name any invention of that era and I garuntee you that Tesla had it first then their patent owners. Tesla never cared for fame but a little acceptance from his fellow inventors may have eased hi final years. He died poor and defeated as he himself quoted. The future in which we live today is his gift and is only a part of what he planned for us. He gave us our future and we weren't able to give him his present.                                                                                                                  by SHIVAM RAWAT

Magazine Journalism

Magazine Journalism The magazine journalism also termed as periodical press in the field of mass communication which is survived by alterations to cater to specific needs just as in the case of radio broadcast. Before the popularity of television started to rise, radio broadcast and the print industry specifically the magazine industry in India were blooming with high hopes. There were more magazines in English and even more in the regional languages on the newsstands, bookstalls and stores than ever before. There is place for all kinds of magazines like general interest magazines, speciality magazines, news magazines, house magazines etc. In fact magazine journalism in India has been in a way a trend setter where young editors got a chance to break new grounds and illustrate their innovative and improvisation skills posing challenges to their own creative ability and talent in the face of stiff competition. Magazine journalism is vitally different from newspaper journalism in many important aspects. Magazines lend perspective to contemporary events, they serve as interpreters and analysts of trends and events. Comparatively free from the deadline rush of the daily press, they are in a position to add a bit of background, researched effort and back reference to the contemporary events. With a more durable cover and stitched pages, magazines are not ephemeral things, to be flipped over and cast aside. Magazine perform a middle distance role between newspapers and books while newspapers report events as they occur and books record them with historical perspective, magazines add a new dimension that of investigation, data and analysis. Another basic difference between the magazine and newspaper is; while newspapers do not aim at a single special group, and must have something of everything for almost everybody, magazines are generally designed for specific target groups. Magazines provide immense diversity almost in every aspect i.e. cover, design, layout, contents and perspective, variety of subjects etc. The modern magazines are essentially a product of printing technology advancement fostered in America in the late ninetieth century. Though magazines in the twentieth century were heavily dependent on advertising as the main source of income, the industry had to face stiff competition from television and films and thus the era of television uprising also become the graveyard for many once popular and flourishing magazines. Indian newsmagazines flourished in the aftermath of emergency. Magazines like India today, Sunday, Week, Frontline and Outlook were successful in catching the attention and imagination of the reading public. The newsmagazines in India cover a wide range of subjects from politics, which dominates the pages, to sports, films, social themes, human interest stories to AIDS, women’s rights and human rights.  In the 21st century magazine journalism has developed more specific and  diversified traits and the cadre of journalism is sub divided into many more  categories. Specific magazine publications have strived in specific beats like film  magazines such as filmfare, stardust and femina which are called mags in general  language, sports specific magazines  such as sportsstar, automotive industry  specific magazines like overdrive, business specific magazines like business today; in the current scenario the beats have grown and become more specified and diverse than ever before and the market and readership for every beat is blooming both in India and internationally.

Freewill or Destiny

What do you think? Are you destined to be where you are and where you will be or you have all it under your control, you can be anything and everything you want to be. Do you believe in destiny or freewill? This question has troubled great minds since the advent of mankind and till now remains answered. We humans are limited at every front. The nature has bounded us at the largest(cosmic levels) and the smallest(quantum levels). Like the flowing water, if it is bounded or restricted we can control its flow and direct it or in other words control its purpose but if the same water is uncontrolled it can have positive or negative effects but on its own accord. Similarly sometimes it feels like these boundations are limiting us so that we human race as a whole do not sway from our predestined path. Due to advacement in technologies in recent times our scientific community is been able to explore deep into interstellar space. As a result we are discovering more and more mind boggling phenomena our universe has. Also we have found numerous habitable planets with perfect atmosphere for sustaining life, but non has it. In this vast universe I don't think it is very difficult to have a solar system like ours with a planet similar to our Earth, but they don't have life even though they all the elements to sustain life. Why? Why in this vast universe(13.2 billion light years) we are alone( assuming if aliens are there they are intelligent enough to contact us and no government is hiding the truth of their existence from us). One of the bold principle supporting this fact is the anthropic principle. It states that" The theories of the universe are constrained by the necessity to allow human existence". In other words it says that the universe is the way it is soo that we can exist. Kinda wierd right. But if you look at it differently you might find that not everything is destined there is the exttence of freewill too. In you look at the history of mankind carefully you will find we have acheived what we wanted to achieve. We wanted to travel quickly, we started flying. We wanted to connected to our relatives across the state, now we are connected globally. You might relate it to Darwin's theory of evolution that in order to survive we evolved by experimenting, observing and learning but I relate it to the law of attraction one of the most fundamental theories of metaphysics, that if you desire something than the universe start working on manifesting it for you in other words our thoughts materialise. Kinad wierd too right?. It does not mean that if you want a car, will pop in front of you. What it means that if you want a car desire it enough and universe will make it happen in the ways you can understand. But if such freewill exist then why are we bounded  or those are just the pieces of the puzzles yet to be put in the right place. Are we destined to believe in freewill? If not than why are constrained.                                                                                                                                          by                                                                                                                      SHIVAM RAWAT

legitimacy of Sonu Nigam's Concern

It was the Monday morning when Sonu Nigam, the prominent Bollywood singer tweeted his displeasure for the use of loudspeakers at religious places for prayers. And as per routine we Indians jumped in and divided the discussion on religious lines. Twitter exploded, with many came in support where as many others took offence and branded him as anti-Muslim. One of the Muslim clerics from Kolkata took this controversy to the height of stupidity and announced a reward of rupee 10 lakh for anyone who shaves the head of Sonu Nigam and garlands him with old shoes. It’s a matter of serious concern that Fatwas are becoming more common than corruption in India! Sonu Nigam, master in his field gave the most epic reply, shaved his head and asked cleric to give Rs 10 lakh to his Muslim barber. The response from cleric is still to come but hope he learned his lesson. But as the drama continued, the main issue lagged behind and hypocrisies surrounded the debate. The basic question was how logical is this to disturb someone’s morning sleep on the name of religion? Be it Azaan in mosque,   Ardas in gurudwara or Aarti in temples. We Indians are little lazy about acknowledging the impact of pollution. We kept on polluting Ganga until it became impossible to recognize and then launched a multi crore scheme to clean her. We kept on polluting the air and then suddenly blamed government for its inactiveness when Delhi chocked. But we are still to acknowledge the psychological impact of noise pollution. We claim to be Indian first but deep down our heart most of us are more of Hindus or Muslims or anything else but Indian. Most of us still respect our Geeta or Koran, more than we respect our constitution. You don’t believe me? So let me tell you what constitution has to say about the use of loud speakers.  The Division Bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice A.A. Sayed of Bombay High court on 16th of August, 2016 said, ‘Religious places could use loudspeakers only with prior permission’. The court, hearing the petitions and PILs on the rising noise pollution in the city, in its order said that Rule 5 of Noise Pollution Rule is Constitutional and state has to abide by it. The Rule says loudspeakers or public address system shall not be used except on obtaining written permission from the concerned authority.  The Rule also says that except indoors; auditoria, conference rooms, community halls and banquet halls, a loudspeaker or a public address system shall not be used at night i.e. from 10pm to 6am! The court further said non-compliance with these rules would attract an imprisonment of 5 years and a fine up to Rs. 1 lakh. Now, we witness such rules violated on daily basis and we choose to ignore it. But one day, out of utter frustration somebody pointed it out and calls it ‘dadagiri’ and we lost our cool! Seriously! Where is Sonu Nigam wrong? For pointing out something illegal? C’mon India, you can do better! Please go through the facts before getting divided on the ground of religion and play in the hand of few.

Bullet Train: A Dream or Reality?

Bullet Train: A Dream or Reality? In the world today, pollution is a major problem. But, with the rise of new technologies, we hope to diminish this problem forever. New inventions are on the way to tackle this major problem. Some have already been introduced, such as hybrid cars, electric scooters and other electrical machines. A big contribution to pollution is the smoke from today’s cars and buses. But thanks to a new and efficient way of transportation, that will decrease the smoke emitted by them: the electric bullet train. A bullet train is a high-speed train that is shaped like bullet, sounds childish, but in a layman’s way we can shape the definition of bullet train in this form. Bullet trains are streamlined so that they can travel faster. Electrically powered bullet trains offer amazing benefits: a quiet, high-speed mode of mass transportation with low environmental dangers. In Japan, bullet trains are known as shinkansen the world's first truly high speed locomotive. Japan’s train travel offers the fastest point to point service of any rail line in the world. But the best addition of the trains in Japan is not their speed but their frequency, there are about 6 train stops in an hour; therefore, you are never being late for your train and be just early for the next one. Since bullet trains are effective way of transportation being that it is fast almost noiseless, non-polluting and luxurious, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the first bullet train in India for Ahmedabad-Mumbai link covering 534 kilometres at about 300 kilometres per hour speed. Embracing the idea of bullet trains means that the Railways will rid itself of a lobby that has always advocated enhancing Train speed with minor changes. In 2009, Railways vision 2020 document reiterated the need for High Speed Rail corridor but the wide range of speed 250 km to 350 km an hour for the proposed bullet trains cast doubts if they would stay true to character. The fastest train in India now is the Shatabdi which runs at 140 km per hour, the record was previously held by Rajdhani Express which clocks at a speed of 130 km per hour. The world has moved on, with France, Spain, China, Germany, Italy, South Korea and Japan boosting trains that zip at 300 km per hour. India, in sharp contrast, has been stuck in a time warp for decades. Bullet trains are very efficient in resource utilisation, be it time, money land or energy. The lower limit of the proposed High Speed Rail is about 300 km/h which is much higher than the allowed Road speed limit in India.  High Speed Rail can accommodate more passengers at far higher speeds than automobiles. A typical passenger rail carries 2.83 times as many passengers per hour metre width as a road. In many countries, example Germany and China high speed Railways share tracks with freight trains. This can help move around goods faster. Even if the tracks are not shared the high speed network will free capacity for rail freight on the conventional network. As more goods are moving faster, it helps the common man by bringing down the prices and empower businesses to scale and speed. An investment in high speed trains will increase efficiency, will be environment friendly, will be economically profitable, will empower the businesses and the common man. However, this won’t be easy. Sure there are and will be challenges. There will be challenges regarding the traffic optimisation, finances, construction, land acquisition and many more. But we can overcome them. We have done this time and again. We have succeeded on several challenging initiatives, and few years down the line- this will potentially be just another such success.
