If you are someone who has lots of logs of wood lying around the place, you probably want to cut them down. Logs can take up a lot of space; for most of us, they serve no real purpose. Unless you are DIY friendly or are still using a wood burner (not recommended), wooden logs have precious little use in your daily life. With that in mind, how do you go about cutting them down? What should you focus on if you want to slice up logs?

Avoid going down the DIY route

Unless you are physically able; cutting logs on your own is not enjoyable. Most of the time, it will take a lot of physical work and strength. You also need the right cutting axe, and a place to cut on top of that is balanced and flat.

You can find that DIY cutting simply takes too long and means you spend too much time re-cutting the same log repeatedly. It might sound funny, but manual log splitting is a hugely challenging process that is not worth your time.

Avoid hiring a lumberjack

Others might hire someone to do the job for them, which is fair enough. Our recommendation, though, is to avoid this. Especially if you end up with lots of wooden logs, you need to keep hiring someone. Lumberjacks are not cheap, either, so you can spend a lot of money per year just getting rid of the logs you wind up with.

Hiring a logger is something you should only do if you have to. Most of the time, you can manage the log cutting with equipment.

Buy an electric log splitter

The best thing you can do is go ahead and buy an electric log splitter. This will simplify the process and ensure that you can quickly and easily slice through logs with minimal effort. Electric log splitters are very useful in that they can do the job you would have expected in a fraction of the time – and with the utmost accuracy.

Make sure you buy a good splitter, though. Professionals like Wood Splitters Direct make a good place to start for a log splitter that will not break the bank. Buy a good quality model, though, and you are much more likely to be able to work through your log collection without mistakes and having to start again needlessly.
